The college corner highlights standout ECNL alums who were named Players of the Week from their respective NCAA Division 1 conferences around the country. This week features a number of players who were outstanding on the field for their college teams.
ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Jasmine Aikey - Stanford
ECNL Club - MVLA
Aikey played the full 90 minutes in the center midfield and led Stanford to its sixth clean sheet of the season in a 1-0 victory over No. 11 Santa Clara on Sunday. Despite the Broncos averaging 2.29 goals per game entering the weekend, the Palo Alto, California, native helped hold the Broncos without a goal and just three shots on target.
ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Week
Lauren Hargrove - Virginia Tech
ECNL Club - Richmond United
Hargrove recorded a pair of victories between the posts to open ACC play last week, capped off by a clean sheet in Virginia Tech's 1-0 win against Syracuse on Sunday. In the victory over the Orange, the Richmond, Virginia, native posted a season-best seven saves on the afternoon, the third-highest mark by a winning goalkeeper in the ACC this season. On Thursday, Hargrove recorded six saves in the Hokies' 2-1 win at Clemson, marking the program's first win over the Tigers since 2012.
Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week
Taylor Jacobson - UCF
ECNL Club - Orlando City
Jacobson and UCF held Houston scoreless as the Knights earned their first Big 12 win of the season. While the UCF defense only allowed nine shots from the Cougars, the senior defender helped on the offensive end in the 5-0 win. The Knights had a corner kick in the first half that Jacobson converted for their second goal of the match. It is her first Big 12 accolade and is the second Defensive Player of the Week award picked up by a Knight this season.
Big 12 Goalkeeper of the Week
Jordan Nytes - Colorado
ECNL Club - Real Colorado
Nytes picked up her second consecutive goalkeeper weekly award following her sixth shutout of the season. The junior grabbed five saves as the Buffaloes tallied a 1-0 win over K-State in the first meeting between the teams. The win marked her fifth straight clean sheet, tying a program record. Nytes enters Week 6 ranked nationally at No. 9 with a save percentage of .930.
Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week
Amanda Schlueter - Ohio State
ECNL Club - Kings Hammer
Schlueter helped lead the Buckeyes to a pair of victories including a 3-0 shutout over Indiana. The sophomore scored once in the win over Indiana and assisted on the game-winning goal. In Ohio State's win over Brown, Schlueter also scored in 81 minutes of action.
Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Week
Molly Pritchard - Ohio State
ECNL Club - Atlanta Fire United
Pritchard made three saves in Ohio State's win over Indiana, as well as six saves in their 2-0 win over Brown. The pair of shutouts gives her three now on the season, as well as two more combined shutouts.
Big Ten Freshman of the Week
Jordan Geis - UCLA
ECNL Club - MVLA
Geis drew the game-tying penalty and then scored the game-winning goal to help UCLA pick up a win over Oregon in their Big Ten opener. The goal was the first of her collegiate career. The freshman leads the Bruins in shots with 18.
SEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week
Mac Midgley - Tennessee
ECNL Club - Michigan Hawks
Tennessee's Mac Midgley, a junior midfielder from Wolverine Lake, Mich., was named Co-Offensive Player of the Week after scoring the game-winner in the 48th minute against No. 7 Memphis. It marked the second straight match that Midgley found the back of the net, contributing significantly to Tennessee's success.
SEC Defensive Player of the Week
Ally Zazzara - Tennessee
ECNL Club - Concorde Fire
Tennessee's Ally Zazzara, a junior goalkeeper from Woodstock, Ga., was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week after making two saves to secure her sixth consecutive shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over No. 7 Memphis. Zazzara's outstanding performance in goal has been crucial in Tennessee's strong defensive showing this season.
SEC Freshman of the Week
Katie Shea Collins - South Carolina
ECNL Club - Tennessee SC
South Carolina's Katie Shea Collins, a freshman forward from Gallatin, Tenn., earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors after scoring her fourth goal of the season in a 6-0 win over Georgia State, which marked the fourth-most goals in a game in program history. In the game against Georgetown, Collins recorded a season-high four shots, with two on target. Her four goals, nine points, and ten shots are the second-most on the team.
