Germantown Legends claimed the Central region on Monday morning, with a 2-1 win over Ohio Galaxies FC to clinch the ECNL Regional League Girls Playoffs - Central U18/19 Championship.
Germantown Legends advanced to the semifinals as the Group B winners following wins over Evolution SC, Ohio Premier, and Steel City FC, while Ohio Galaxies FC went 2-1 in Group D, advancing on the most goals scored tiebreaker.
Germantown Legends then beat Chattanooga Red Wolves 2-1 in the semifinals, while Ohio Galaxies defeated FC United Iowa 1-0.
In the championship game, Germantown Legends got on the board early, scoring from a corner kick in the opening minutes to grab the 1-0 lead.
Ohio Galaxies FC fought their way back into the game though, scoring on a shot from outside the box that was lofted over the diving goalkeeper to knot things up going into the halftime break.
In the second half, Germantown Legends found the game winner when Addyson Hines played a ball past the defense to Payton Biggs, who ran behind two defenders, dribbled around the goalkeeper, and fired home the shot to secure the championship for Germantown Legends.
Following the game, Biggs was named the Player of the Match.
